Cold War, Bay of Pigs, Cuban Missile Crisis & Assassinations

My research into the political climate of the 1960's has largely been through the prism of the JFK Assassination. However, one cannot study the assassination without also learning a great deal about the intelligence community's desire to remove Fidel Castro from his position as the prime minister/president of Cuba. To this end, certain American mafia figures were involved, thus one cannot avoid study of a rather large criminal network within the U.S. by association. It's now known that the mob had affiliations within the Central Intelligence Agency, who were in turn tasked with their mission by Richard Nixon while he was still vice president under Dwight D. Eisenhower. It only makes sense, even without verification through detailed research, that our primary intelligence agency would seek the services of certain mafia figures in the assassination of Castro, in order to ensure themselves a believable scapegoat. Due to the secretly recorded confession of Louisiana-based mafia don Carlos Marcello, one hardly needs to further question the presence of a conspiracy inherent to the assassination of Kennedy in 1963. Many fine books, including the expansive work of author/researcher Lamar Waldron, do an excellent job of tracing the lines between dots that have been there since the day the assassination took place. What follows is a list of 34 such books, all of which are recommended for serious researchers. Most of them discuss the Cuban Missile Crisis of October, 1962 or the failed Bay of Pigs operation to assassinate or capture Fidel Castro. This effort is known to have been perpetrated by CIA-trained Cuban exiles, forced to leave their home country when Castro took the highest seat of control in the country through a successful coup against sitting President Fulgencio Batista. Marcello and fellow mafia leaders Santos Trafficante and John Rosselli infiltrated this plan (largely via Rosselli, a known friend of David Morales, who was head of the Miami CIA Station during the period. The cover-up of the assassination was initiated in order to conceal the possibility that Castro was responsible for the assassination, as mob figures tried to claim via carefully-crafted "evidence" and intriguing conspiracy theories planted in the American media. Prevailing wisdom suggested that the American people would demand an invasion of Cuba in retribution for the assassination, thus compelling the Soviet Union to retaliate in order to protect Cuba, it's satellite nation. This, in the words of Lyndon Johnson, would've "set off a war that could kill 40 million American lives in an hour."

As the list below stands, the books are not listed in an order indicating a starting point for the novice researcher, but that feature is forthcoming so keep checking back.

Less readily connected to geopolitical issues than JFK are the subsequent assassinations of his brother, Robert, and Civil Rights activist Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Both took place in 1968. Both cases, like the assassination of JFK, are rife with possibilities that conspiracies existed prior to implementation. A long-held belief suggests that RFK's assassin, Sirhan Bishara Sirhan, might have been under the influence of drugs, hypnosis, or both, thus requiring a necessary branching off from the facts of the case in order to validate such claims.
